Reddit is introducing three tools inside Ads Manager to help advertisers forecast campaigns, identify setup improvements and automate budget allocation. Announced on October 20, 2026, the updates include a campaign planner, campaign-level optimization scores and expanded campaign budget optimization (CBO).
Reddit also reports that advertisers with optimization scores of at least 80% had 19.6% lower blended cost per acquisition (CPA) than advertisers with lower scores. That finding comes from Reddit’s internal data, not a controlled test or a promised performance improvement.
For B2B SaaS advertisers, these Reddit Ads optimization tools could make planning and management easier. But a higher score or lower platform CPA does not necessarily mean more qualified leads. Here is what changed, how the features differ and what marketers should test.
What Reddit announced on October 20, 2026
Reddit’s official announcement describes three distinct additions. The campaign planner helps before launch, optimization scores guide campaign setup, and CBO automates budget allocation during delivery.
| Feature | What it does | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign planner | Estimates reach, impressions and costs; compares scenarios and turns a selected plan into a draft campaign. | Rolling out to advertisers through October 2026. |
| Campaign-level optimization score | Provides a 0%–100% score and setup recommendations during campaign creation and editing. | Rolling out to advertisers through October 2026. |
| Campaign budget optimization (CBO) | Moves budget allocation to campaign level and distributes spend across ad groups. | Available for awareness and consideration and Traffic; Sales, Lead generation and App promotion remain in beta. |
These are not all generative AI features. Reddit specifically highlights Reddit Community Intelligence within planning for audience engagement insights and conversation summaries. The score and CBO focus on recommendations and automated allocation.
Campaign planner: forecast before committing spend
The Reddit campaign planner lets advertisers compare potential campaigns by budget, audience, objective and placement. It estimates reach, impressions and costs before spend begins, and a selected scenario can be converted into a campaign draft.
For a developer-tools or cybersecurity company, the more useful input may be the community context: which subreddits are active, what topics people discuss and where a relevant offer might fit. Reddit Community Intelligence can inform those assumptions, but it cannot establish that a conversation signals buying intent. A technical discussion is not automatically demand for a demo.
Use forecasts as hypotheses. After launch, compare projected reach, delivery and costs with actual results, and separately evaluate whether visitors progressed toward a qualified sales conversation.
Optimization scores: recommendations are not business outcomes
Reddit introduced its Recommendations Center and account optimization score in July 2025. The October 2026 change expands scoring and personalized guidance into campaign creation and editing. A score from 0% to 100% can identify settings Reddit recommends reviewing.
The danger is treating a score as a success metric. Expanding an audience might improve delivery but weaken a narrowly targeted account-based or community campaign. A 100% setup score cannot tell a B2B marketer whether the resulting leads fit the ideal customer profile.
Keep a record of recommendations accepted, rejected or deferred and the reason for each choice. Evaluate objective, targeting, creative, landing-page relevance and conversion tracking on their own merits.
Campaign budget optimization: easier scaling, less control over tests
Reddit Ads CBO lets advertisers set budgets and bids at campaign level and allows Reddit to distribute spending across ad groups according to expected performance. It reduces manual reallocation but changes how advertisers run controlled audience experiments.
If a broad audience generates cheaper early conversions than a small, high-fit community, CBO may prioritize the broader group before the niche group has sufficient evidence. This is a potential testing tradeoff, not a claim that Reddit has demonstrated poorer lead quality under CBO.
For exploratory tests, separate ad-group budgets can make comparisons easier. For established campaigns with reliable conversion signals, CBO may be worth a controlled scaling trial. This distinction between testing and scaling is also covered in OneMetrik’s PPC budget allocation framework.
CBO is also narrower than Reddit Max, which automates additional campaign decisions. The October CBO update concerns budget distribution rather than an end-to-end replacement for campaign strategy.
What the 19.6% CPA claim actually means
Reddit shares three performance figures, but they measure different things. From internal data collected between July and September 2026, accounts with optimization scores of 80% or above had 19.6% lower blended CPA than lower-scoring accounts. A five-point score increase was associated with 4.4% lower blended CPA. In a separate internal study from late 2025, Reddit reported 10% lower CPC among Traffic advertisers using CBO, and cautioned that results are not typical.
The score figures are correlations, not evidence that changing a score alone causes CPA to fall. Better-run accounts could receive higher scores and perform more efficiently for other reasons. CPC, CPA and cost per qualified opportunity are also different metrics. A platform may find people who click or submit forms cheaply without identifying decision-makers likely to enter a sales pipeline.
For B2B SaaS, measure cost per qualified lead, opportunity creation and pipeline generated alongside Reddit’s in-platform metrics. The reported percentages are hypotheses worth testing, not budget forecasts.
How B2B SaaS marketers should test the new tools
Start with one use case and a documented baseline. A cybersecurity advertiser, for example, could compare two planning scenarios before launch, review score recommendations without automatically accepting audience expansion, and then test CBO on a separate campaign that already has sufficient conversion volume.
- Planner: compare two scenarios with one material difference, such as audience or budget; record forecast versus actual delivery.
- Optimization score: log each change and its effect without changing targeting, creative and tracking simultaneously.
- CBO: test against a comparable campaign with controlled budgets, stable creative and the same objective.
- Business outcomes: inspect lead quality, opportunity rate, pipeline and, when available, closed-won revenue in the CRM.
If tracking stops at a form submission, budget optimization only sees that conversion event. It cannot independently verify whether the contact became sales-qualified or generated revenue. These tools should therefore be evaluated as operational improvements, not replacements for conversion-quality measurement.
Access is another constraint. The planner and campaign-level scores are rolling out during October 2026, while CBO for Sales, Lead generation and App promotion is still in beta. Advertisers should confirm what is available in their own accounts before planning around it.
OneMetrik Takeaway
Reddit’s update is useful because it tackles three different sources of campaign effort: planning, setup review and budget allocation. The planner can make assumptions visible before launch, the score can create a more systematic setup review, and CBO can reduce manual adjustments when a campaign is ready to scale.
We would test them in that order, without expanding a carefully chosen audience solely to improve an optimization score or giving CBO control of a campaign optimized for low-quality form fills. The tools earn their place when they improve decisions and qualified pipeline, not just the metrics shown in Ads Manager.
