Reddit has made Reddit Max campaigns available to all advertisers, taking its automated campaign format out of beta.

The update, announced on September 3, 2026, also brings Advertising API support, Smartly integration and new asset groups. Together, these changes make Max easier to use for advertisers managing larger budgets, multiple creative variations or campaigns across several markets.

Reddit says Max delivered an average 17% lower cost per action and more than 27% additional conversions in 17 split tests. Those figures are promising, but they are Reddit-reported results, so marketers should treat them as a reason to test Max rather than as a guaranteed outcome.

Reddit Max now handles more campaign decisions automatically

Max is Reddit’s answer to the wider shift toward automated media buying. Instead of asking advertisers to manually control every audience, placement and bid, Reddit Max campaigns use Reddit’s systems to make more of those decisions automatically.

Advertisers still choose the campaign objective, budget, conversion setup and creative assets. They can also provide communities, keywords, interests and custom audiences as signals, while Reddit can expand beyond those suggestions when its system predicts better performance.

Some controls remain fixed. Location targeting, audience exclusions and account-level brand safety settings still stay with the advertiser.

The current Reddit Ads API documentation also shows a few limits. A Max campaign supports one ad group, advertisers cannot manually select placements, and Reddit recommends supplying at least three headlines and two media assets. Up to 50 creative assets can be added through the API.

Reddit says Max lowered CPA by 17%, but keep the test conditions in mind

Reddit’s strongest claim is that Max produced a 17% lower cost per action and more than 27% additional conversions compared with standard campaigns.

The company says those figures came from 17 split tests conducted between June and August 2025. Each test compared a Max campaign with a standard Reddit campaign over a 21-day period.

Reddit also points to individual advertiser results. Fender reported 148% ROAS, a 126% higher CTR than benchmark and a 46% more efficient CPC than a standard campaign. LensDirect reported 5.5x overall ROAS.

These examples are useful, but they should not be treated as universal benchmarks. The safer interpretation is that Reddit Max campaigns now have enough early evidence to justify testing. Whether they outperform an advertiser’s existing setup will depend on the conversion event, creative quality, audience signals and product.

We are seeing the same move toward automation elsewhere. Google has been expanding AI Max for Search campaigns and adding more Google AI Max testing tools. Meta is also bringing more AI into campaign and creative workflows, as covered in our analysis of Meta AI ad features.

Where Reddit Max becomes useful for B2B SaaS marketers

For B2B SaaS teams, the most interesting part of Reddit Max campaigns is not simply automated targeting. It is the ability to give Reddit several audience signals and creative angles, then let the platform test combinations faster than a team could manage manually.

That can be particularly useful on Reddit, where users often gather around very specific problems, technologies and professional interests. Our guide to Reddit Ads for SaaS explains why community context matters so much on the platform.

Asset groups can separate different SaaS use cases

The new asset groups allow advertisers to organize different creative messages, URLs and media inside one Max campaign. A SaaS company could, for example, separate themes such as pipeline visibility, CRM automation and sales forecasting, then compare how each message performs.

More creative does not automatically mean better creative

Reddit can work with a larger pool of assets, but marketers still need genuine variation. Uploading ten versions of the same generic SaaS message does not give the system much to learn from.

A stronger test would include different pain points, benefits, proof points and angles. That is especially relevant on Reddit, where overly corporate messaging can feel out of place.

Conversion quality still matters more than cheap conversions

If Reddit Max campaigns are optimized toward demo submissions, the system will try to generate more demo submissions. It cannot automatically know whether those demos became sales-qualified opportunities unless better downstream conversion data is being passed back.

That makes attribution and CRM integration critical. We have covered the same issue in our guide to B2B marketing attribution. A lower CPA can look great in the ad platform while pipeline quality quietly gets worse.

For B2B SaaS advertising, cost per lead should rarely be the final success metric. Qualified pipeline is the better test.

API access makes Max more practical for larger advertisers

The Reddit Ads API now supports Max campaigns, and Smartly is Reddit’s first announced third-party partner for campaign creation and management.

That matters operationally. Agencies and larger paid media teams can use API-based systems to create campaigns, manage assets and standardize processes without relying entirely on manual setup inside Reddit Ads Manager.

A simple way to test Reddit Max campaigns

Marketers do not need to move an entire Reddit account into Max to find out whether it works.

  1. Use a conversion event that is already reliable.
  2. Base audience signals on relevant communities, keywords or customer data.
  3. Use a creative pool with genuinely different angles.
  4. Send traffic to a landing page that has already proven it can convert.
  5. Track downstream lead quality, not just in-platform conversions.

Then compare the result with a strong standard campaign, not a weak one. For B2B teams, useful metrics include cost per qualified lead, opportunity rate, pipeline generated and which asset groups are producing the best downstream results.

What marketers should watch next

Reddit says target cost bidding is still coming to Max, which could give advertisers more control over efficiency targets while keeping much of the campaign automated.

The partner ecosystem is another area to follow. Smartly is currently the first announced third-party integration, and more integrations could make Reddit easier to manage alongside Google, Meta and other paid platforms.

OneMetrik Takeaway

Reddit Max campaigns are worth paying attention to, but the automation itself is not the biggest story.

What matters is that Reddit is taking on more audience expansion, bidding, placements and creative combinations while giving advertisers new ways to supply and organize the inputs.

That can reduce manual campaign work. It cannot fix weak positioning, poor conversion tracking or bad creative.

For B2B SaaS teams, a controlled Max test makes more sense than an immediate account-wide switch. Use a conversion event you trust, give the campaign genuinely different creative angles and track what happens after the lead enters the CRM.

If Max lowers CPA and improves qualified pipeline, scale it. If it only produces cheaper form fills, the automation worked. The marketing did not.
