Search Console platform properties bring Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube data into GSC

Platform properties are now globally available to every Search Console account, and Google has published a companion guide on reading the data. The original 7 July coverage below has been expanded with the full reporting playbook.

Google shipped a Google Search Console update on 7 July that quietly redrew the boundary of what “your search performance” means. Search Console platform properties let you add your Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube accounts as verified properties and see exactly which queries send people from Google Search and Discover to your posts.

Read that again: query-level Search data for content that does not live on your domain. Until this release, that data existed only inside Google.

On 29 July, Google removed the availability caveat. Search Console social reporting is open to everyone, and the practical shift is simple. A marketing team can now see what people searched before clicking a social post, which formats attract Google traffic, and which older videos are finding a second life.

What Google announced

Platform properties are a new property type in Google Search Console. You add one the same way you add a site: open the property selector, click Add property, pick one of the four supported platforms, and authorise the connection. No website required, which means a creator with zero web presence can now use Search Console.

The property type first began rolling out on 7 July. Google confirmed global availability on 29 July and published a new guide on analysing social and video content performance at the same time.

Each Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube account must be added and verified separately. If an account was already connected through a claimed Search profile, the data should already be there. Expect roughly 48 hours between verifying a property and seeing usable data, so verify before you plan the analysis, not after.

The reporting layers you actually get

Report or featureWhat it showsUseful marketing question
Insights28-day traffic trends, top content, query groups and countriesWhich topics are gaining or losing search interest
PerformanceClicks, impressions, queries, pages, countries, devices and search surfacesWhich post or video attracts Google discovery, and from which audience
AchievementsGrowth milestones based on clicks from GoogleWhether the account is building a larger search footprint over time
24-hour viewRecent changes in clicks and impressionsWhether a new post is gaining traction quickly enough to cross-promote
Comparisons and filtersFormats, URLs, dates, countries and devicesWhether Shorts outperform long videos, or Reels beat standard posts

Google recommends comparing YouTube Shorts with full-length videos, Instagram Reels with standard posts, and different platform properties through exported reports. Search Console annotations can record title or caption changes, which makes before-and-after reviews easier. Google describes these as performance comparisons, not controlled experiments.

This was telegraphed for months

If this feels sudden, it is not. Google ran a social channels experiment inside Search Console Insights in December 2025, limited to auto-detected channels on a small set of sites. In May 2026 came Search profiles in Discover. In June, generative AI performance reports landed in Search Console, which we broke down in our AI Overviews report analysis.

Connect the dots and the direction is obvious. Search Console is expanding from how does my website rank to how does my brand get found. We covered the Search profiles piece of this shift, and platform properties are the logical next step. Search everywhere optimisation stopped being a conference buzzword and became a Google product roadmap.

Why B2B SaaS teams should care

Most social dashboards start after a user enters the platform. They show reach, views, watch time, engagement and follower activity. They usually do not show the Google query that sent someone to a post. That gap has made social media SEO harder to manage, and it is the gap this release closes.

For B2B SaaS marketing, this matters in five ways.

  • Branded query defence gets measurable. When someone searches your product name plus review or demo, what ranks: your site, your YouTube video, or a competitor comparison? You can now see whether your own social content is winning those results, with the same click and impression data you already pull for your site. Pair it with your existing workflow for checking rankings in Search Console.
  • Video content performance becomes easier to diagnose. YouTube demos and tutorials have always ranked, but proving it required screenshots and hand waving. A video with high impressions and a weak click-through rate may have a title or thumbnail problem. A video with strong clicks from a narrow query group may deserve a sequel, landing page or paid distribution. This connects with the broader YouTube creator partnerships update, where Google is also bringing creator planning, paid activation and reporting closer together.
  • Social media SEO becomes a real discipline. TikTok and Instagram posts rank in Google for commercial queries far more often than most B2B teams realise. With actual query data, you can optimise captions, hooks and titles against demonstrated search demand instead of guessing. If social distribution is part of your mix, our AI social media marketing playbook covers where automation fits.
  • Content repurposing can start with observed search demand. Instead of turning every webinar into ten random clips, teams can identify the section already attracting Google traffic and expand that idea. One strong YouTube query can become a product page section, short video, comparison article or sales enablement asset. The guide to content repurposing with AI offers a practical workflow for producing those variations without losing the original point.
  • Search and social teams get a shared dataset. The SEO team brings query intent. The social team brings format and creative context. The paid team decides whether proven organic content deserves promotion. That is a meaningfully different conversation from the usual argument about whose dashboard is right.

How it compares with other measurement tools

Platform properties are useful because they fill a specific gap. They are not a replacement for every analytics system.

ToolBest atWhat it cannot answer alone
Search Console platform propertiesGoogle queries, impressions, clicks, devices, countries and formats for supported social accountsNative feed reach, engagement quality, assisted pipeline and revenue
Native social analyticsViews, engagement, retention, followers and in-platform discoveryWhich Google searches led users to the content
Website analyticsSessions, on-site behaviour and conversion eventsFull performance for content hosted on social platforms
CRM and revenue reportingLead quality, opportunities, pipeline and closed revenueWhy a social post appeared in Google, or which search terms drove discovery

The biggest reporting mistake would be treating a rising Search Console chart as business impact. More Google clicks to a TikTok or YouTube account can be useful, but they may still produce zero qualified demand. Combine three layers: Search Console for discovery, native analytics for content consumption, and CRM data for commercial outcomes.

What to do next

Start by verifying every active brand account, including the dormant ones. Data collection starts at verification and it is property-specific, so a company with YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X needs four properties. Claimed Search profiles may already have the matching accounts added.

Then build a baseline for the previous 28 days:

  1. Export the top queries and top content for each platform.
  2. Separate branded, category, problem-aware and informational searches.
  3. Compare short-form content with long-form content where the URL structure allows it.
  4. Flag high-impression content with low clicks.
  5. Flag older content that is gaining impressions again.
  6. Compare social queries with website queries and paid-search themes.

That last step is the one that pays. Overlap between social and website queries means cannibalisation risk or search-result domination, depending on positions. Gaps mean your social content is capturing demand your site never sees, which should feed directly into your content plan. The same logic behind topic clusters applies here.

Do not rewrite every title and caption at once. Change one meaningful element, add an annotation, and review the next comparable period. A broad edit across fifty videos produces plenty of activity and very little learning. Pair query evidence with audience fit and a clear format decision rather than treating the report as an automatic content calendar.

The limits worth knowing

This measures Google’s view of your social content, not the platforms’ native discovery. TikTok search and Instagram search remain black boxes. The feature supports four networks, not every social platform, and cross-platform analysis still requires separate exports.

A caption annotation shows timing correlation rather than proof that an edit caused a result. And like the AI traffic question we tackled in our GA4 tutorial, measurement tools always lag behaviour. People searched their way to social profiles for years before Google handed us the receipts.

OneMetrik Takeaway

Google has admitted, in product form, that discovery happens across platforms it does not own the content for. Platform properties turn social and video assets into measurable search inventory. A tutorial, product clip, founder video or customer story can now be evaluated partly by the search demand it captures outside the company domain.

At OneMetrik we are adding platform property audits to our monthly SEO reporting for every client with active social channels, and we use the report as a prioritisation layer rather than a vanity dashboard. Verify the profiles, capture the baseline, compare the queries with website and paid-search data, then choose a small number of content updates to test.

The teams that benefit most will not be the ones exporting the most spreadsheets. They will be the ones turning one useful search signal into a better content and distribution decision.
